What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage uses slow, firm pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and the connective tissue around them. It is ideal for chronic tension: the shoulders that never relax, the lower back after a long day at a desk, or calves that stay tight. Our therapists use thumbs, forearms and elbows, and work with you so the pressure is strong but bearable. See our main deep tissue massage page for more.

Who it suits

• Office and remote workers with neck, shoulder and upper-back tension
• Drivers and commuters with stiff lower backs and hips
• Active people with tight legs and shoulders. See also sports massage.
• Anyone who finds normal massage too gentle

Want it even firmer? Ashiatsu (barefoot massage on the back) can be included in any massage on request. If you would like deep work combined with Thai stretching, try the Thai Deep Mix.

60 or 90 minutes?

A 60-minute deep tissue massage (£70) works well for one or two focus areas, such as back and shoulders. Choose 90 minutes (£105) if you want deep work on several areas or a full body session without rushing. Many Stevenage clients book 90 minutes and make an evening of it.

Are you in Stevenage?

No. Our only salon is in Woolmer Green, about 10–15 minutes south of Stevenage by car.

Will deep tissue massage hurt?

It is firm and you may feel some discomfort on tight spots, but it should never be more than you can comfortably take. Tell your therapist at any time.
