Deep Tissue Massage

Our Thai deep tissue massage uses slow, firm strokes and targeted pressure to work into the deeper layers of muscle. It is the treatment we recommend most for stubborn knots, long-standing neck and shoulder tension and back pain from sitting, driving or training.

What to expect

Slow, firm pressure that targets knots and chronic muscle tension.

  1. A short chat about where you hold tension and any injuries.
  2. Oil massage with firm forearm, elbow and thumb pressure on problem areas.
  3. Your therapist checks the pressure regularly.
  4. Some tenderness the next day is normal. Drink water and keep moving gently.

Add Ashiatsu: walking on the back (Ashiatsu) can be added to any massage on request, and it is very popular. Just ask when you book or arrive. What is Ashiatsu?

All treatments take place in a private room at our salon on London Road, Woolmer Green. We have our own car park behind the shop with room for 6 cars, plus free parking in the adjacent roads.

“This was my first deep tissue massage and it was just what I needed. I felt my back getting stiff and uncomfortable during driving instruction, and was looking for a solution. Cindy was very thorough and professional, asking if I was okay and comfortable. She was easy to talk to and helped me relax. I realised how tense I was as she treated each muscle group. I want to follow up with another session in a few weeks to sustain the benefits. Thank you May Thai Therapy!”

Questions about deep tissue massage

Is deep tissue massage painful?

It should feel firm and sometimes intense on tight spots, but never unbearable. Tell your therapist at any time and the pressure will be adjusted.

How often should I have a deep tissue massage?

For a specific problem, every one to two weeks for a few sessions works well, then monthly to maintain it.

What is the difference between deep tissue and Thai Deep Mix?

Deep tissue focuses on firm oil massage. Thai Deep Mix blends deep tissue with Thai pressure-point work and stretches, head to toe. Both cost the same.

Can I add Ashiatsu (walking on the back)?

Yes. Ashiatsu, where the therapist uses their feet to massage your back, can be added to any massage on request and is very popular. Just ask when you book or when you arrive.
