Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage for Stress?

By May Thai Therapy · Woolmer Green, Knebworth · Updated 14 October 2026

For stress relief, choose Swedish massage (or Relax Thai Therapy) if you want gentle, soothing relaxation, and deep tissue if your stress shows up as tight shoulders, neck or back. Both cost £70 for 60 minutes at May Thai Therapy.

Swedish massage for stress

Swedish massage uses long, gliding oil strokes and kneading with light to medium pressure. It is calming and a good first massage.

Deep tissue massage for stress

Deep tissue is slower and firmer, for when stress has built up as knots and tension.

Other calming options

Relax Thai Therapy (our gentlest), Aromatherapy Thai with lavender oil, or Head, Neck & Shoulder for desk tension.

A note on anxiety

Many people find massage helps them relax, but it is not a treatment for anxiety or depression. If stress is affecting your health, speak to your GP.

Safety

Massage is not suitable for everyone. Tell your therapist about any injury, recent surgery, blood-clot history, heart condition, or skin condition before you start. If in doubt, check with your GP first. For an acute injury, see a GP or physiotherapist before booking.
